Library News – October 2023

Tuesday afternoons at the library:

  • LEGO Fun for Families:  Join us in the program room from 4:00-6:00 p.m.
  • Chess for All Ages:  Drop in anytime between 4:00 and 6:00 p.m. in the main library.

Seniors Corner presents Ilona Ryder – “Art in the City:  Michael VonDrak and his San Francisco Paintings.” 

Join us on Tuesday, October 10, from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m.  Discover the captivating journey of American Artist Michael VonDrak as seen through the eyes of his daughter, Ilona Ryder.  Registration is encouraged, drop-ins are welcome.

Weekend Fun with the Little Ones:  Rhyme Time

 Check out our drop-in Rhyme Time program on Saturdays from 11:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.  Enjoy early literacy fun with stories and songs for kids aged 2-6 years.

Youth Tech Workshop:  Exploring Circuits 

Use simple circuits to sound a buzzer, light up a sculpture, design a circuit game, and more at our October Youth Tech workshop!  Thursday, October 12, from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m.  Open to kids in grades 7-10.  Registration is required.

Blanket Workshops

 Join us at the Library for a Blanket Workshop hosted by REACH Edmonton.

In this workshop, participants will have the opportunity to step into the perspectives of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples.  The Blanket Workshop aims to enhance understanding of the lasting impacts of colonization on Indigenous Peoples, and to foster joint efforts towards reconciliation.  Join us at 11:15 a.m. or 1:45 p.m. Sunday, October 15.  Each workshop is for two hours.  Registration is required.  This event is a partnership between the City of Beaumont and the Beaumont Library.

Medieval Knights Presentation:  Arms and Armour 

Experience the life of a knight by learning about Medieval Arms and Armour from Sir Thomas of Strathcona with the Knights of the Northern Realm, a local 14th-century living history group.  Tuesday, October 17, from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m.  Suitable for all ages.  Registration is required.

Family Counselling Centres Inc. (FCC) Workshops 

FCC is collaborating with the Beaumont Library to offer psychoeducational workshops in a group format.  In October, FCC offers two separate workshops:

  • Therapeutic Story Time:  Loss and Mourning Rituals – Thursday, October 26, from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. (Free workshop for children aged 11-14 years)
  • Loss and Mourning Rituals for Adults – Thursday, October 26, from 6:30- to 7:30 p.m. (Free workshop for adults)

Star Wars Reads Day

 Join us on Saturday, October 28, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.  For fans young and old, favorite characters will read to us!  Marvel at their incredible costumes and props.  Feel free to come in your own costume for a selfie and an autograph!  Presented by the 501st Legion Badlands Garrison.  Registration is encouraged, but drop-ins are welcome.  Donations will be accepted on behalf of Beaumont-Nisku Christmas Elves.
